My recipe was based on New Years Eve Haystacks, by Home Cooking Memories, for the January Pinterest challenge.

Our Chocolatey Winter Haystacks ingredients were slightly different from the ones in the New Years Eve Haystacks recipe.

We combined 3 cups of chow mein noodles with 2 cups of cocktail peanuts in a large bowl.

We melted the whole 16 oz box of vanilla melting squares in the microwave 45 seconds at a time (until smooth), then poured it over the chow mein mixture and mixed everything well.

We used two spoons, as suggested, to form the haystacks.

We melted about half (8oz) of the chocolate squares, and drizzled it over the haystacks with a fork.

They tasted great!

I like the Chocolatey Winter Haystacks recipe because it can be adapted to any holiday.

Your haystacks sound wonderful! My husband would love these. pinning -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
Thanks Marci,
They’re super-easy to make!
Kristie, these look super yummy! I love the no-bake aspect too.
Me too Debbee! Do you do the Pinterest Challenges?
I would love these! My mom makes something similar at Easter, but the peanuts with the chow mien noodles sounds amazing! Pinning!
Thanks! I’ve made them with butterscotch and white choclate before, but these are better!
These look so good. And so easy to make.
Thanks! The melting squares were a lot easier to deal with than regular chocolate.
Those do sound yummy and remind me of a treat my great aunt used to make using butterscotch chips I think… (I know they had a buttery -scotchy taste anyway). I just no- bake desserts! Pinned.
Yes, I’ve had them with butterscotch. They’re good too, but not as good as the ones with chocolate.
I love that this recipe isn’t super difficult. Looks yummy!
Thanks, Lauren. I love no-bake recipes too.
Love how easy these are – I’m thinking they might make an easy Easter treat! Pinning!
Send me a picture if you make Easter ones!
These look simple and delicious, perfect for a party.
Thanks, Julie!
Wow, do these bring back memories! They were a popular holiday treat when I was a teen. Glad to see them making a comeback!
Isn’t it funny, how there’s nothing new under the sun? Everything that’s old-fashioned gets freshened-up and revived eventually!
Haystacks are delicious! I love the salty sweet combo. The addition of the festive sprinkles is something I haven’t seen before, so I will have to try that. By the way, we have the same first name! Even the spelling is the same, which hardly ever happens! : )
I love your blog. You have lots of good ideas. You’re right. I don’t meet that many Kristies. I’ll definitely be able to remember your name.
I am from Germany and I’ve never heard of these haystacks. But they sure look delicious! Thank you for sharing the recipe.
You’re welcome. If you decide to make them, post a picture in the comments, and I’ll add it to my post.
These look interesting. I have seen them around quite a bit, but never tried.
They’re very good, and can be changed to match any theme or holiday.
Ooo…I love sweet and salty treats. This is right up my alley.
Thanks, Erlene.
Anything no bake is a win, right? I’m going to have to try this next year to take to our Thanksgiving gathering as I usually have no time to do anything. You make it sound super simple. Pinning.
Thanks, I hope they turn out well, Kelli.
