Have you ever wondered about the history or worth of an item you found at a thrift store or garage sale? I have. While we’re on homeschooling hiatus this summer I plan to scour the second-hand stores, flea markets, and garage sales for vintage items of all kinds and research their origin and current worth.
WORTH: I found this full-sized Mary Engelbreit teapot at my local Goodwill store. Similar teapots retail for $25-$40 on Ebay and Etsy.
HISTORY: Mary Engelbreit is a graphic artist from St. Louis, Missouri. She is known for her whimsical designs featuring cherries, teapots, and Scottie dogs. The details of the world around her appeared when she began wearing glasses in the second grade. Many of her designs include a little blonde-haired girl with glasses.
APPEAL: Her illustrations make me want to step into them and live there forever. As a woman, I love the way she emphasizes the importance of the home. As a fellow wannabe-artist, the thing that impresses me the most is the hand-lettering in her designs.
