Do you have periods of time in your life when you just love cooking? Several times a year, I go through weeks or months where I cook with more joy than usual and try new recipes too. Preparing food for my family with zeal makes me happy. This week I tried the Chocolate Chip Pie Recipe from the Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cookbook. It’s easy to make and a nice change from the chocolate chip pan cookies I usually make. If you need a Biblical reason to feel great about cooking, read Proverbs 31:14-15 NASB.
She is like merchant ships; She brings her food from afar. She rises also while it is still night And gives food to her household And portions to her maidens.
I also have a collection of vintage Royal China Country Harvest Recipe Pie Plates made by Jeannette Glass. When I find one “in the wild” (at a thrift store), I try the recipe and write a post about it. If you need to get inspired to make pie, these recipe pie plates are a great place to start! You can read about my pie plate collection in Royal China Jeannette Country Harvest Pie Plates.
Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Pie Recipe:
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 stick melted butter (8 tablespoons)
- 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans (I used whole pecans instead)
- one 9 inch unbaked pie shell
- Add hot fudge sauce or whipped topping, if desired.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Beat eggs until foamy.
Add flour and brown sugar. Beat until well blended.
Blend in granulated sugar and melted butter.
Stir in chocolate chips. I added whole pecans to half of the top of the pie at the end of the recipe because some of my children do not like nuts.
I used a frozen, individually wrapped Pillsbury Pie Crust. I pressed the thawed, uncooked crust into my vintage cobalt blue Pyrex pie plate. Once your pie crust is in place, pour in the batter.
Smooth everything nicely and make sure the batter is evenly distributed.
Bake the pie for one hour. I topped mine with whole pecans (rather than adding chopped pecans to the batter) and drizzled hot fudge sauce on top with a fork.
You’re all done! Wasn’t that easy? I hope you enjoyed my Chocolate Chip Pie Recipe.
Blessings,
Kristie
