DIY Beach Towel Pillow Cover
I bought a flip-flop beach towel at Walmart a few weeks ago, thinking I could make something crafty with it. Making an envelope-style, DIY Beach Towel Pillow Cover for my sofa seemed like a great way to start the summer season.
Materials:
- beach towel
- coordinating thread
- 18 inch pillow or pillow form
- basic sewing supplies
Instructions:
This DIY Beach Towel Pillow Cover was one of the easiest things I’ve ever made. I’d never sewn an envelope pillow cover before, and felt a little apprehensive about the process. No worries, the whole project was complete in about 15 minutes. I’m so happy with the result, I plan to make another one, so that my sofa can sport a matching pair of beach towel pillows for the summer.
I used an 18” square plaid pillow that I already had for the pillow form. Whatever the measurement of your pillow form, add 2 inches to that as the measurement of your first panel. Cut one 20” square section from your beach towel. I used a measuring tape to measure, and marked each side with a few tiny pen marks before cutting.
For the back “envelope” part of your pillow cover, cut one piece 15” x 20”, and another 11” x 20″ (regardless of pillow form size, subtract 5″ and 9″ from the total length to get the length measurements for your smaller pieces). Use the ends of the towel for the 20” side of the two smaller pieces. Cutting them this way will give you a finished edge for the opening on the back of the pillow. Lay the 20 x 20 piece right side up, then pin the two smaller pieces on top, right sides down. The smaller pieces will overlap one another. After you sew the pillow cover, you’ll have a nice little slot to insert your pillow form into.
place everything nicely then pin
Sew around the outside edge of the pillow cover with a straight stitch. It is stitch #7 on my Brother sewing machine. Next, turn it out.
Now it’s time to stuff it with your pillow form!
You’re all done! Now you have a removable, washable, cozy DIY Beach Towel Pillow Cover!
Blessings,
Kristie

This is really cute – a fun way to use unique towels – and I can even see using older towels that one doesn’t want to part with

Thanks, Julie. I purchased another beach towel with the same pattern, so that I can have a pair of pillows, instead of just one.
