Mush Love Flower Pot

This week, I’ve been obsessed with painting mushrooms. I’m getting ready for The Valentine’s Market at Tanger Outlet in Hilton Head (Feb. 11th and 12th). Now that my youngest child is fourteen, I have more time and money to experiment with different displays, products, and etc.

My Mushroom Mania

When we moved into our house in 2021, gnomes were the theme for Christmas. I carried the theme into Valentine’s Day, and then spring. By the time summer rolled around, I was tired of gnomes. For me, it was the mushrooms! For Christmas 2022, I dropped the gnomes, kept the mushrooms, and adopted a coastal woodland forest theme. My love of fairy tales, enchanted forests, and childhood dreams is encapsulated in that magical fungi. Take a look below at some of my current favorites:

Dollar Tree (It should actually be named $1.25 Tree) has a few different little mushroom houses and accessories. Of course, I choose the red and white classic toadstool.
The “I Love You So Mush” Purse from Betsey Johnson is on my Valentine’s Day wish list.
I found this cross stitch at a thrift store. It is in my downstairs powder room. It is definitely from the 1970s groovy era, which goes well with the Midcentury vibe of the furniture and amber and green glass in the China cabinet in our living area.
For Christmas 2022, I dropped the gnomes, kept the mushrooms and had a Coastal Woodland theme.
This fun winter tablescape resembled a Magical Forest.
I painted this while we were renting an apartment, with the hope our house would be ready in the near future. Now it hangs in the dining room.

Painting a Mushroom Couple

While there’s nothing new under the sun, we painters and makers want to create our own designs. I didn’t think of the “Mush Love” saying, but the mushroom couple design is my own.

The big heart and Mush Love couple is painted on both sides of the flower pot.
The mushrooms and stems came next.
This little mushroom pillow was my inspiration.
I used black paint for the faces and the “Mush Love” saying. You can find the Jumble font on Microsoft Word.

    I’ve been drawing red and white mushrooms since I was a kid. I must have seen them in a story book or similar and became enchanted. Now I make them in needlefelting, have them all over the Christmas tree and still paint them. I just love your sweet flower pot. Very cute indeed!

    I adore this “Mush Love” pot. You did a great job with the painting. Mushrooms are definitely seeing a resurgence of well deserved popularity. I recently bought a few mushroom ornaments for my Christmas tree. Thank you for sharing this post on the Home Imagined Link Party.

      Thank you. Of course I am excited about the resurgance of the mushroom! I bought a mushroom sweatshirt yesterday.
