Because I’m a Christian, I’ve had several people ask me if this pandemic is linked to the end times in Revelation or if I think God is judging our nation. To be honest, I don’t know for sure if the Lord is judging our nation, but I have searched the Bible for answers. If you’re interested, read on and let me know in the comments what you think (trolling or hate-filled comments will be deleted).

A Nation That Has Turned Away From God
I think most people would agree that we are a nation that has turned away from God. We’ve legally eliminated prayer in schools, monuments relating to the Ten Commandents and other references to the Bible, and the need to submit to local, state, and federal leadership. Although the entire world is suffering from the pandemic, the USA carries a large portion of Covid-19 cases, with half of them being from the United States, Brazil, and India. What does the Bible say about it? Israel’s history shows what can happen to a nation that has turned away from the Lord and to nations that obey Him. Let’s start with a few of Israel’s blessings:

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance. Psalms 33:12 NASB
“Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God:

3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
4 “Blessed shall be the offspring of your body and the produce of your ground and the offspring of your beasts, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock.
5 “Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
6 “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out Deuteronomy 28:1-6 NASB

I’ve listed a few of the blessings. What about the judgement for not obeying?
5“But it shall come about, if you do not obey the LORD your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
16“Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country.
17“Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
18“Cursed shall be the offspring of your body and the produce of your ground, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock.
19“Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out. Deuteronomy 28: 5, 16-19 NASB

Do You Feel Powerless to do Anything About It?
I often think to myself:
*What can I do about all of this? I’m just a sinner that continues to make mistakes.
*Some of the people in my own household are unbelievers. If I can’t influence the people under my own roof, how can I have a positive impact on anyone else?
*Can a simple homemaker be used by You anyway, Lord?
*I don’t even like reading Bible verses out loud in Sunday School. How can I make a difference?

It reminds me of what Gideon said to the Angel of the Lord when he was asked to rise up against the Midianites that were oppressing Israel. Interestingly, Israel was given to the hands of the Midianites for 7 years because Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. Yes, He does allow unbelieving nations to oppress us when we are evil in His sight.
15 He said to Him, “O Lord, how shall I deliver Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.” Judges 6:15 NASB
Moses was also afraid when the Lord called him to ask Pharoah to let his people go:
10 Then Moses said to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” Exodus 4:10 NASB
In spite of Gideon’s doubt, the Lord allowed him to prevail over the Midianite army with only 300 Israelites! He also empowered Moses to part the Red Sea and lead his people out of Egypt. If you’re looking for more Divine inspiration, read Hebrews chaper 11. It’s a hall of fame chapter for His faithful men and women.

If You’re A Simple, Imperfect Person Like Me, Here’s What You Can Do:
- Read your Bible- If you want to see the world from a Biblical perspective, you have to read The Bible. If you don’t like reading or don’t have time you can download the Bible App on your smart phone and tap the speaker icon in the top right corner. Listen to the Bible in your car, or while you’re making dinner. For years I’ve listened to my local Christian radio station while working in the kitchen.
- Set house rules that honor the Lord (based on your own convictions)- All children under 18 are required to worship with us on Sundays. We also ask adult children living in our home to attend church with us on Sundays as well. Although we’ve wrestled with this rule at times, I keep going back to Joshua 24:15 NASB: 15 If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Also, people that aren’t married cannot share the same bed in our home. We don’t attack the lifestyles of adults outside of our home or allow to it to affect our relationships. Although I occassionally say, “As your mother I must say that your decision to…”, We choose to love sinners but hate the sin because we’re sinners too.
- Remember, Christians are convicted to deal with things in different ways- For years a friend of mine blasted me for trick-or-treating. While I respect those that disagree, I enjoy decorating for Halloween and trick-or-treating with my children. If it isn’t a detrimental issue like Salvation or the Trinity, agree to disagree. We chose to tell our children that Santa Claus was a man who lived a long time ago and that we bought the Christmas presents under the tree. Some of our children plan to do otherwise with their own children, and that’s ok.
- Use your gifts to glorify and obey the Lord- This post is littered with pictures of patriotic decor and crafts. I love our “One Nation Under God” and like to make things that reflect my feelings.

Because I enjoy writing, I type numerous blog posts about Christian living, homemaking, homeschooling, and marriage. Some people say that writing about something is the weakest thing you can do regarding an issue. What about Martin Luther’s Ninety-five Theses of 1517? His little piece of paper set off the entire Protestant Reformation. Writers like me, William Shakespeare, George Whetstone, and Edward Bulwer-Lytton consider the pen to be mightier than the sword. Even the Bible refers to itself as “The sword of the Spirit.”
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17 NASB
Regardless of your spiritual gifts or natural gifts and talents, the Lord has given everyone something they can use. I’d love to hear about the positive ways you’re using your own blessings during this pandemic.

Blessings,
Kristie

Amen sister! Good for you for writing what was on your heart. We have some of the same issues in our family – believers and unsaved, they believe but have not accepted Christ as their savior. I do believe that all of this is God’s plan and that HE is in control – even if it is unpleasant: pandemic and civil unrest. We believe that this situation isn’t going to get any better any time soon and have encouraged people to prepare accordingly: in their heart & soul and in their households.
Blessings and Christ’s love to you and your family Kristie,

Melissa, I appreciate your encouragement! This pandemic has been hard, but maybe it’s preparing Christians for the future in some way. I’ll pray for the salvation of every member in your household!
Blessings!
So well said! And what a lovely family!
Thank you, Donna!
Amen!
Thanks, Jeanie!
As things have unfolded in 2020, I, too, have wondered if these are some of the times prophesied about in Revelations. It seems to me that it certainly could be! (The verses in Joshua that you mentioned about me and my house serving the Lord are some of my favorite!)
I’ve also wondered what I could do. (I’m only one person like you!) I’ve decided that I can serve others and extend love and charity. (I also quilt quilts for an organization that gives quilts to kids who are in hospice or suffering from life threatening illnesses.)
Thanks so much for sharing this at our Party in Your PJs link party!
Extending love and charity to others is a great idea during this pandemic!
