In 2019, I was part of the 12 Days of Christmas Ideas Blog Hop. I received 2 very large burlap stockings from Burlap Fabric in exchange for creating a blog post containing their product. I had so much fun making a Jingle Bells and Pine Cones DIY Burlap Christmas Stocking Wreath! I decided to create a Mrs. Claus stocking because she is a great role model for my future as a grandmother. I’m not a grandmother yet. We have children ranging from 12-25 years-old and haven’t had the first wedding. That’s ok though, I’m getting a jump on the grandparent thing with a Mrs. Claus Christmas Eve Stocking. I’ll fill it with bangles and baubles and goodies to delight little children everywhere. In the mean time, I can stuff with it with my big children’s Christmas Eve pajamas.
Materials for Mrs. Claus Christmas Eve Stocking:
- burlap stocking
- newspaper or cardboard to stuff into the stocking to prevent paint bleed-through.
- plaid fabric for the top of the stocking
- sewing machine/basic sewing supplies
- Apple Barrel paints- 21390E Khaki, 21049E Pink Parfait, 20407E Hunter Green, 20404E Black, 20403E White, 20713E Spring Green, 20432E Nutmeg, 2605E Crimson
- Folk Art paints- 2480 Royal Gold, 662E Sterling Silver
- DecoArt Galaxy Glitter paints- Aurora Borealis Green and Silver Moon
- paint brushes- 1/2″ angle brush, small round brush, liner brush
Painting Instructions:
First, create a pattern (or find a free coloring sheet or pattern online) of Mrs. Claus. Feel free to save the image of my pattern and print it on an 8 X 10 piece of paper. I drew it with pencil, then took a picture of the drawing with my phone. After that I saved the picture to Be Funky (the photo editing program I use), then converted it to an ink drawing. I wanted my modern-day Mrs. Claus to look somewhat like me, but not exactly. I used a photograph of myself as a guide for part of her lower face and hair and the shading and highlighting of her features. She does look like a funny caricature of me. To transfer the pattern, cut the outline of her head and body, then place it on the stocking. Next, trace around the pattern with a crayon.
You’re all done! I hope you enjoyed my Mrs. Claus Christmas Eve Stocking tutorial. Have a beautiful holiday.
Merry Christmas,
Kristie
