DIY Aged Copper Patina Outdoor Table

Welcome to June’s Pinterest Challenge, hosted by My Pinterventures! This challenge is all about not just pinning the things you like, but MAKING IT HAPPEN! For a long time I had this wobbly, raggedy side table. I kept talking about using my Aged Copper Patina Kit (from Modern Masters) to make a DIY Aged Copper Patina Outdoor Table. My Pinspiration can be found here. After much procrastination, I upgraded it earlier in the spring and posted pictures of it in How To Live Big on a Small Porch. I promised a tutorial that never materialized. So, after more procrastination, I am making things happen by writing this post. Procrastinators Unite- tomorrow. Lol.
Materials:

The Metal Masters Kit comes with a primer, a metallic paint color (I used copper), and an Aging Solution. For an Aged Copper Patina , you use the Green Patina Aging Solution. I used a 1” sponge brush and lots of outdoor sunshine to complete this project.
Instructions:
Clean the outdoor table. Mine was covered in all sorts of debris. Yuck.

Prime your piece. I had to be careful around the tabletop, not to get primer or paint on the glass. The table had a very rusty patina, in its natural state.

When the primer is dry, add the Metallic Copper Paint. It’s so pretty! I almost hated to age it.

Bring your beautiful dog outside while the paint is drying.

Now it’s time to do the fun part! After you’ve rinsed your 1” sponge brush free of paint and primer, brush on the Aged Green Patina Solution. It goes on clear, so you won’t see the aged green look until it dries. That just makes it more mysterious, and fun.

This Aged Copper Patina Herb Garden March Pinterest Challenge was the first successful time (ahem) I used the Modern Masters’ paints. It still looks great, after being outside for several months. The Modge Podge sealed the seed packet papers very nicely!

I hope you enjoyed this month’s Pinterest Challenge!

I love the technique you just shared. I do a lot of painting and never tried to do this. Great share. Love your table.
Thanks, Terrie. I would love to try aged silver and bronze as well.
This turned out great. The look is lovely.
Thanks, Beverly!
That turned out great! I love aging things!
Me too, Cherryl!
That turned out great! I have an old white patio table I keep thinking of doing over….
It sounds perfect for a faux metal Patina makeover!
This looks fabulous! I really like it on your adorable porch. Great tips for doing a table like that. I have a table very similar to yours and it needs an update.
The Modern Masters paint “kits” work really well. You can almost guarantee a good result. It is a 3-step process though.
I like how the patina turned out. Glad you were able to rescue that old table.
Thanks, Lydia!
Good idea to update a tired grimy table. Wonder how this would work with plastic? Have spray painted plastic containers only to have them flake after a season.
I haven’t gotten good results with painting plastic, no matter what the method.
That’s such a cool effect! I have a table just like that except square – I’m going to give this a try!
Let me know how it turns out!
What a fun, trendy piece! I really think copper is such a pretty look.
Thanks, Alexandra!
What a great product and technique. This sounds like such a fun challenge – Thank you for sharing at Party In Your PJs!
Thanks for hosting, Ann!
I’ve never done a patina look, but I like it! I’m thinking of what I could paint with this technique 🙂
I would like to try one of the other Patinas- like Aged Silver.
It turned out beautiful and a great match to the rest of your porch decor. Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned.
Kristie, I totally get what you said when you almost didn’t want to age your copper painted side table. It was very pretty. But the aged look is awesome, too! In fact I just read a tutorial today how to age pennies. They didn’t use a kit but various ingredients such as baking soda, salt, and other things. Either way – artificially aged copper looks stunning and seems to be a fun craft project.
What a beautiful table you have made. I have just the perfect table for such a thing…if only you were closer 😉
Thanks, Elise!
Thanks for sharing at Inspire Me Monday at Create With Joy – loved your beautiful project! 🙂
Thanks for the encouragement!
Love the colors of the table!
Thanks, Pili!
