Fall and winter holidays were made for primitive painting! What a great time to set those mugs of cider and hot cocoa on Primitive Pumpkin Wood Slice Coasters.
Materials for Primitive Pumpkin Wood Slice Coasters

- wood slices 1/4″ to 1/2″ thick
- Apple Barrel paints- 20404E Black, 20403E White, 20432E Nutmeg, 20589E Harvest Orange, 21467E Tuscan Red
- brushes- 1/4″ angle brush, liner brush, 1″ sponge brush
- Minwax Clear Gloss Polycrylic
- Thompson’s Clear Multi-Surface WaterSeal
Painting Instructions:

Painting Tip:
I varied the size and color of each primitive pumpkin coaster. I chose to freehand the initial shapes rather than tracing a pattern. I plan to make my own pattern by tracing over the finished pumpkins so I can recreate the project with ease in the future. It’s especially important to have consistency with items you plan to sell.

Protecting the Painted Surface

Protecting the painted surface might seem like an extra step. However, it’s actually the most important step toward an acrylic painting project that can stand the test of time. Finish up strong with one coat of Minwax Clear Gloss Polycrylic and two coats of Thompson’s Clear Multi-Surface WaterSeal.

I hope you enjoyed my Primitive Pumpkin Wood Slice Coasters tutorial.
Happy Fall,

Wonderful project! I am glad you shared to use the water sealer too. I have wood slices in my craft stash but haven’t figured out how to make coasters with them yet. I definitely learned something from your post today. Thanks for sharing. #HomeMattersParty
