It’s time for the December Pinterest Challenge, hosted by Erlene, from My Pinterventures. The goal of the monthly pinerest challenge is to choose one of those pins you’ve been saving, and make it happen!
After playing around with Coastal Christmas Decor this year, I’ve decided that coastal doesn’t always have to be blue or sand-colored. The gorgeous South Carolina coast where I live is loaded with green. Evergreens and Live Oaks are everywhere! Also, we like to use traditional reds and plaids in our decor, just like everyone else. So, I’ve created a Rustic Coastal Christmas Centerpiece that includes red and green plaid, and a little bit of burlap.
It all started with some Mason jars and sand. I had 5 little jars that I found at a thrift store recently, and a beautiful blue quart-sized jar. I began by filling each one with a little bit of coarse sand. Then, I placed a Christmas tree (it was tough to find one without snow) inside the blue jar.
I placed a bed of purple sand (for contrast) on a cake plate for the base.
Next, I put a few shells in the small jars. Afterwards, I added some glittery red yarn to the small jars, and a thick piece of jute to the larger blue jar. I tied the jute in a nautical knot.
The centerpiece needed a focal point. I decided to make a beachy gingerbread man from a Pepperidge Farm Ginger Family Cookie. I covered the cookie in glue, then sprinkled coarse sand on top. He has wiggle eyes, a yarn mouth, and Christmas sprinkle swimming trunks. In the end, I decided not to use the snowman hat. It was too sparkly for the beach.
For the last step, I added some starfish and seashells. The centerpiece was placed on a piece of burlap fabric, and a Martha Stewart Woodland Tablecloth. I hope you enjoyed reading about my Rustic Coastal Christmas Centerpiece!
Merry Christmas!
