Simple DIY Red And Black Plaid Ornaments

I’ve always loved red plaid, especially in the wintertime. This year, I was looking for some simple DIY red and black plaid ornaments for my new silver Christmas tree, and I wanted to have more of a glam look, as opposed to a rustic one. There were plenty of options online, but the prices were high. So, I found a way to make my own for a little more than $1 each.

For this project, you’ll need:

1. clear glass ornaments- Try to avoid the iridescent kind, they have a rainbow haze around them.

2. 3.5” wired plaid craft ribbon

3. a pair of pinking shears- The pinking shears keep the material from unraveling.

Clear Glass Christmas Ornaments

At Michael’s Craft Store, I purchased two $5 boxes (with 8 ornaments per box) of clear ornaments, and a roll of 3.5” plaid wired craft ribbon. Most of the Christmas stuff was 50% off. I used their 50% off one regular-priced item coupon to get the ribbon for $7.50. Altogether it cost $17.50 plus tax to make 16 ornaments.

Directions:

Cut the ribbon horizontally into twelve 1/2” strips. I like the wired ribbon for this project because it gives the ribbon “body,” so that it doesn’t just lay flat in the bottom of the ornament.
