Every year the girls scan the internet for Halloween costumes for themselves and our Morkie dog, Hercules. Last year we were disappointed by the Snoopy Red Baron costume we ordered for him. It was too big and fit poorly. This year I decided to make my own. One of the cutest internet dog costumes (in my opinion) is the dog loofa. I bought orange loofas and added a skeleton to make Hercules’ costume a Spooky Loofa Dog Halloween Costume. The loofas were $2 each (I used 2), and the skeletons came in a pack of 5 from Dollar Tree. The onesie was $1 from Walmart. The entire costume was only $6. We already had the rubber ducky.
Materials Needed:

- 2 loofas
- plastic skeleton
- onesie
- glue gun and glue sticks
- rubber ducky
- a thread and needle, just in case the onesie needs any alterations
Heat up your glue gun, then cut the string in the middle of the Loofa to free the layers. Cut the handle off and save it for later. Unravel your loofa. I let mine trail along the floor as I worked. Try the onesie on your dog to make sure it fits. Make any adjustments needed, using your thread and needle. I folded the right side seam over about a half inch, and whip-stitched it, to make the onesie a little bit tighter.

Hot glue the loofa onto the onesie in crimped handfuls. I used a wooden spoon to press the loofa material into the onesie, because I did not want to get burned by the blistering hot glue. Make sure you cover up the whole onesie.

After I glued the loofa material to the front of the onesie, I put it on a stuffed rabbit so that I could glue the loofa material onto the backside more easily, and cover any missed spots.

Once the onesie was well-covered, I glued on the skeleton, loofa handle, and rubber ducky.

You’re all done! Try the costume on your dog to make sure everything looks good!

Happy Halloween!
Kristie
