Upcycled Perculator Pumpkin Face

My Upcycled Perculator Pumpkin Face brings back happy memories of my childhood with my mom and grandmother. Back then, everyone in my East Tennessee family smoked cigarettes and drank coffee all day long. When we visited her house (at least once per week or more) my grandmother would take her dented, black and silver perculator and fill it with coffee grounds and water. Soon the the familiar chug-chuging sound would begin. My mom always said that coffee made in a perculator tasted better than modern-brewed versions. I wouldn’t know because I am too in love with my K cups to investigate.

I found this vintage Sears avocado electric perculator while thrifting a few Saturdays ago. It had all of its parts and was probably still in great working order, but I had other plans.

The coffee grounds holder and cord were inside the perculator.

Materials for the Upcycled Perculator Pumpkin Face:

Upcycling Instructions:

Remove the inner parts and spray the outside with Black, then Orange spray paint. Sand the Orange surface in a vertical motion with fine grain sand paper (this is demonstrated in the video at the beginning of the post).
Touch up any overspray, then paint the eyes White and the shading for the face Black. Use the 1/4″ angle brush for both.
Mix Black and White to make a Gray nose with the round brush. Add the crescent mouth with Red and the 1/4″ angle brush. Add a little Pink to the mouth corners with the 1/4″ angle brush. Highlight the nose, mouth, and paint in the teeth with White and the liner brush. Shade the nose with Black and the liner brush.
Make eyebrows and under-eye bags with Gray and the angle brush. Mix Red and White and paint the eyelids with the 1/4″ angle brush. Load the angle brush with the mixed Pink on the back end and Red on the tip. Paint the bottom edge of the eyelid Red with the pointy edge of the 1/4″ angle brush. Add Green irises with the round brush.
Create pumpkin section lines at 3″ intervals all the way around your Upcycled Perculator Pumpkin Face. Paint Red, Black, and then White on each line to assimilate the illusion of pumpkin sections.
Color the pupils Black with the liner brush. Line the bottom edge of the iris with the liner brush and a mixture of Red and Green. Add clear glitter paint to the iris with the 1/4″ angle brush.
Add highlights to the pupils with White and the liner brush. Add Black eyelashes with the liner brush. Add Black shading and White highlights to the nose with the liner brush.

The Finished Product

Sign your project with White and the liner brush.
